Embarking on a career as a licensed insurance agent in Virginia requires passing a state licensing exam administered by Prometric. Although the Virginia Bureau of Insurance does not mandate pre-licensing education for most lines of authority—such as Life, Health, Property & Casualty, and Personal Lines—engaging in a structured exam preparation course is strongly advised to improve your success rate.

For those pursuing a Title Insurance license, Virginia law stipulates the completion of a 16-hour pre-licensing education course before taking the licensing exam. This course must be completed within one year prior to the exam date.

Our pre-licensing and exam prep programs are designed to align with the Virginia licensing exam content outlines, providing you with in-depth knowledge and practice opportunities. Courses are available online, allowing you to study at your own pace and schedule. Practice exams and quizzes are included to assess your readiness and reinforce your understanding of key concepts.

Steps to Obtain a Virginia Insurance License:

1. Choose Your Line of Authority: Decide which type of insurance license you wish to obtain (e.g., Life, Health, Property & Casualty, Personal Lines, or Title).

2. Complete Pre-Licensing Education (if applicable): While not required for most lines, completing a pre-licensing course is recommended. For Title Insurance, a 16-hour course is mandatory.

3. Schedule and Pass the Licensing Exam: Register for the appropriate exam through Prometric. A passing score is typically 70%.

4. Submit Fingerprints (Residents Only): Schedule an appointment with Fieldprint to submit your fingerprints, which are valid for 90 days.

5. Apply for Your License: After passing the exam and submitting fingerprints, apply for your license online through Sircon or NIPR.
