Washington D.C. Insurance CE

In Washington, D.C., resident insurance producers must complete 24 hours of continuing education (CE) every two years, including 3 hours in ethics. To maintain an active insurance license in Washington, D.C., resident producers are required to fulfill specific continuing education (CE) requirements every two years, as outlined by the D.C. Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking (DISB).

General CE Requirements:

  • Total Hours: 24 hours every two years

    • Ethics: 3 hours

    • Course Approval: All courses must be approved by the DISB.

    • Course Repetition: Courses cannot be repeated for credit within the same two-year license term.

    • Carryover Credits: Excess CE hours cannot be carried over to the next renewal cycle.

Special Training Requirements:

  • Annuity Products:

    • Training: A one-time 4-hour course approved by the DISB is required before selling, soliciting, or negotiating annuity products.

  • Flood Insurance:

    • Training: A one-time 3-hour course on flood insurance is required during the first license renewal period for property and casualty producers.

Title Insurance Producers:

  • Resident Title Insurance Producers (Non-Attorney): 16 CE hours

  • Resident Title Insurance Attorneys: 8 CE hours

  • Non-Resident Title Insurance Producers: 4 hours of D.C.-specific CE credits

Additional Information:

  • License Renewal: CE requirements must be completed at least 15 business days prior to the expiration of the license to ensure timely renewal.
