Description
To maintain an active insurance license in Utah, resident producers and adjusters are required to fulfill continuing education (CE) requirements every two years.
General CE Requirements:

Total Hours: 24 hours every two years

Ethics: 3 hours

Classroom or Equivalent: At least 12 hours must be completed through classroom or classroom-equivalent courses.

Course Approval: All courses must be approved by the Utah Insurance Department.

Provider Limitations: No more than 12 hours may be from courses provided by insurers.

Course Repetition: Courses cannot be repeated for credit within the same two-year license term.

Carryover Credits: Excess CE hours cannot be carried over to the next renewal cycle.

Title Producers:

Total Hours: 12 hours every two years

Ethics: 3 hours

Classroom or Equivalent: At least 6 hours must be completed through classroom or classroom-equivalent courses.

Long-Term Licensees: Title producers licensed for 20 or more consecutive years are required to complete only 6 hours, including 3 hours in ethics.

Special Training Requirements:

Annuity Products: Producers must complete annuity product-specific training prior to selling annuities in Utah.

Long-Term Care Insurance:

Initial Training: 3-hour course required before selling.

Ongoing Training: 3-hour refresher course every two years.

Flood Insurance: Producers must complete a one-time 3-hour course on the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) before selling flood insurance.
Exemptions:

Non-Residents: Non-resident producers who have met the CE requirements in their home state are exempt from Utah’s CE requirements.

Experience: Producers licensed before December 31, 1982, may be exempt from CE requirements.

Professional Designations: Producers holding certain professional designations (e.g., CLU, ChFC, RHU, CPCU, CFP, REBC, CIC, ACSR, CRM, SOFE, or IRES) who have completed their respective continuing education requirements may be deemed to have met Utah’s CE requirements.
