Description
Embarking on a career in Tennessee’s insurance industry requires meeting specific licensing requirements set by the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance. These include completing pre-licensing education and passing a state exam.
Pre-Licensing Education Requirements:
For each line of authority, applicants must complete a pre-licensing course through an approved education provider. The required hours are as follows:

Life: 20 hours

Accident & Health: 20 hours

Property: 20 hours

Casualty: 20 hours

Title: 30 hours

Personal Lines: 20 hours
Licensing Process Overview:

Complete Pre-Licensing Education: Enroll in and complete the required pre-licensing course for your chosen line of authority through an approved provider.

Pass the State Exam: Schedule and pass the licensing exam.

Submit Fingerprints for Background Check: Complete a fingerprint-based background check as part of the application process.

Apply for Your License: Submit your application and $50 filing fee online at NIPR.
Continuing Education Requirements:
To maintain your license, you must complete 24 hours of continuing education every two years, including 3 hours of ethics.
