Description
Ohio Continuing Education Requirements
The Ohio Department of Insurance mandates that agents with major lines – property, casualty, personal lines, accident & health, life and variable products – complete 24 hours of approved continuing education every two years, including 3 hours of ethics. Agents may not submit renewal applications until CE credits are complete.
Other license types have additional requirements:
- Title Agents – Must complete 12 hours of CE, with 10 hours title‑specific and 2 hours ethics. Agents holding both a title and a major lines license need 24 hours total, of which 10 hours must be title‑specific and 3 hours ethics.
- Surety Bail Bond Agents – Require 7 hours of CE if licensed only for surety bail bonds (6 hours specific and 1 hour ethics). Agents holding both a surety bail bond and a major lines license must complete 24 hours of CE, including 12 hours surety‑specific and 3 hours ethics.
- Viatical/Life Settlement Brokers – Need 15 hours of CE specific to viatical/life settlements; those holding major lines must complete 24 hours with 15 hours viatical‑specific and 3 hours ethics.
- Long‑Term Care Training – Agents selling long‑term care insurance must complete an 8‑hour initial LTC course and 4‑hour refresher each renewal period.
