Description
To maintain an active insurance license in Wisconsin, resident agents are required to fulfill specific continuing education (CE) requirements every two years, as outlined by the Wisconsin Office of the Commissioner of Insurance (OCI).
General CE Requirements:

Total Hours: 24 hours every two years

Ethics: 3 hours

Course Approval: All courses must be approved by the Wisconsin OCI.

Course Repetition: Courses cannot be repeated for credit within the same two-year license term.

Carryover Credits: Excess CE hours cannot be carried over to the next renewal cycle.

Special Training Requirements:

Long-Term Care (LTC) Insurance:

Initial Training: 8-hour course required before selling LTC insurance, including 2 hours specific to Wisconsin Medicaid and long-term care information.

Ongoing Training: 4-hour course required every 24 months, including 1 hour specific to Wisconsin Medicaid.

Annuity Products:

Training: One-time 4-hour course required before selling annuity products, covering the best interest standard.

Flood Insurance:

Training: One-time 3-hour course required before selling flood insurance, meeting the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) requirements.

Life Settlement Brokers:

Initial Training: 8-hour course required before applying for a Life Settlement Broker license.

Ongoing Training: 4 hours every 24 months, completed at a rate of at least 2 hours each 12 months.

Exemptions:

Non-Residents: Non-resident producers who have met the CE requirements in their home state are exempt from Wisconsin’s CE requirements, except for the Annuity and LTC Partnership training.

Limited Lines Licensees: Agents holding exclusive limited line licenses for credit, legal expense, travel, and title insurance are exempt from CE requirements.
