Description
Embarking on a career in Texas’s insurance industry requires meeting specific licensing requirements set by the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI). These include completing pre-licensing education and passing a state exam.
Pre-Licensing Education Requirements:

General Lines – Life, Accident, Health, and HMO: Applicants must complete a 40-hour pre-licensing course. If applying for a temporary license, an additional 40 hours of training provided by the appointing company is required. The temporary license is valid for 180 days.

Adjuster (All Lines): A 40-hour pre-licensing course is mandatory. At least 30 hours must be classroom or classroom-equivalent instruction. Self-study is limited to a maximum of 10 hours.

Medicare-Related Products: An 8-hour course is required for certification. To maintain certification, 4 hours of continuing education in Medicare-related products are needed every two years.

Continuing Education Requirements:
To maintain your license, you must complete 24 hours of continuing education every two years, including 3 hours of ethics. Adjusters and public adjusters have specific continuing education requirements, including a minimum of 30 hours per reporting period, with at least 2 hours in certified ethics or consumer protection courses.
