Embarking on a career in South Carolina’s insurance industry requires passing a state licensing exam administered by Pearson VUE. Although the South Carolina Department of Insurance does not require pre-licensing education, engaging in a structured exam prep course is highly recommended to improve your understanding and performance.

Licensing Process Overview:

Meet Eligibility Requirements: Be at least 18 years old and a resident of South Carolina.

Prepare for the Exam: Utilize exam prep courses to familiarize yourself with the exam content and format.

Schedule and Pass the Exam: Register for the licensing exam through Pearson VUE at Pearson VUE – South Carolina Insurance. Bring one form of valid, non-expired ID that is government-issued, contains a current photo and your signature, with the name on the ID exactly matching the name on the exam registration.

Submit Fingerprints for a Criminal History Background Check: Complete fingerprinting as part of the background check process. Details are available on the South Carolina Department of Insurance website.

Apply for Your License: Submit your application via the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR): NIPR Licensing Center.
Continuing Education Requirements:
To maintain your license, you must complete 24 hours of continuing education every two years, including 3 hours of ethics.
