North Dakota Insurance CE Requirements:

  • Resident Producers and Adjusters:

    • CE Requirement: 24 hours of CE, including 3 hours of ethics, every 2-year license term.

    • Course Repetition: Courses cannot be repeated for credit within the same license term.

    • Carryover Credits: Up to 12 hours earned in the second half of the biennial reporting period may be carried over to the next renewal period. Ethics hours may be carried forward as general credit only.

  • Non-Resident Producers and Adjusters:

    • CE Requirement: Exempt from North Dakota CE requirements if they meet the CE requirements of their home state. However, they must comply with North Dakota’s specific training requirements for annuity and long-term care products.

Special Training Requirements:

  • Annuity Best Interest Training:

    • Requirement: Producers must complete a one-time 4-hour course approved by the North Dakota Insurance Department before selling, soliciting, or negotiating any annuity products.

  • Flood Insurance Training:

    • Requirement: Producers selling flood insurance must complete a one-time 3-hour National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) training course.

  • Long-Term Care (LTC) Training:

    • Initial Training: 8-hour course before selling LTC insurance.

    • Ongoing Training: 4-hour refresher course every 2 years.

Additional Information:

  • Exemptions: Producers licensed exclusively for the sale of legal expense insurance, title insurance, travel baggage insurance, surety bonds, bail bonds, and credit life/accident & health insurance are exempt from CE requirements. Newly licensed individuals are also exempt during the calendar year in which they receive their first license; beginning January 1 of the following year, all standard CE requirements apply.
