Pre-Licensing Education Requirements:

For each line of authority, candidates must complete 20 hours of pre-licensing training. This applies to the following lines:

Note: Pre-licensing education must be completed before applying for the licensing exam. Providers report course completion electronically to the Department of Insurance.

Steps to Obtain Your Kentucky Insurance License:

  1. Complete Pre-Licensing Education: Enroll in and complete the required 20-hour course for your desired line(s) of authority.

  2. Apply for a Background Check: Obtain a criminal background report through the Kentucky Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC). The report is valid for 60 days.

  3. Submit License Application: Apply for your license through the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR) at www.nipr.com.

  4. Schedule and Pass the Licensing Exam: After your application is processed, schedule your exam through the Kentucky Department of Insurance’s eServices portal.

  5. Print Your License: Upon passing the exam, you can print your license from the eServices portal.
